The following statement has been generously shared by a sponsor of the Powell River Salmon Society, Grieg Seafood:

From Marilyn Hutchinson:

As part of our commitment to keeping our partners including enhancement societies informed, I am attaching a bulletin from Stewart Hawthorn, our Managing Director, with regard to efforts this week by an anti-salmon farming activist to incorrectly suggest that a virus has been identified in farmed salmon that causes a syndrome called HSMI (heart and skeletal muscle inflammation). The bulletin which Stewart has asked me to share, corrects the misinformation that has gone out.

HSMI Statement – bulletin #2 – revised Apr 18 2012

If you have any questions, Stewart is available via cell phone at 1.250.202.8588 and I am available at cell 1.250.203.0314. Thank you.

While our weather hasn’t been very good but we did have a couple of sunny days this past weekend. “One of our own” volunteers was out fishing and seems to have had some luck. He caught “One of our own!” These fish are easily recognizable. Shiny, large and yes you guessed it….a Lang Creek Tyee!!
John had this to say about the event:
“This fish was caught Sunday Afternoon by Scotch Fir Point fought well for 10 minutes till it got to the boat, had a look at the boat then took off screaming for about another 12 to 15 minutes until he was finally in the net . We had caught another spring [9lbs-4oz] about 1/2 hour before this one. Great way to spend a beautiful afternoon.”
Well John, this is clearly the case of good karma. You have given so much to our organization it was bound to happen. Thanks for your help, and I hope you catch another!
Long Live the Lang Creek Tyee!
Cheers
